How to Pick a Salad Dressing
In a perfect world, we would all make our own salad dressing, where we control the quality of all the ingredients being used. But life is busy, and we need healthy go-to options! With all the options in the grocery store, it can be overwhelming. So what should you choose?
Things to Look For:
Healthy Oils: Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
These are high in monounsaturated fat, which is extremely heart healthy!
No added sugar
Less than 200 mg sodium per serving
No preservatives

Things to Avoid:
Omega-6 Oils
- These include soybean, corn, sunflower, safflower, and cottonseed oils
- They trigger inflammation in the body
Added Sugar
- High fructose corn syrup and any word ending in -ose (dextrose, fructose, sucrose, etc) are all forms of sugar
High sodium content
Preservatives and artificial ingredients
- Common ones: Calcium Disodium EDTA, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Polysorbate 60, Disodium Inosinate, Disodium Guanylate
