Zinc for Immunity!
Zinc is a mineral essential for our health, but what exactly does it do?
Plays a major role in proper functioning of the cells of the immune system. When infected, the body activates an inflammatory pathway to help fight the pathogen. Zinc helps regulate this pathway; without adequate zinc there is a high chance of excessive inflammation that can lead to severe symptoms or even death.
Studies have shown that elderly patients given zinc supplements have a lower rate of infections.
A recent study found that "lower levels of zinc were associated with greater inflammation and poorer outcomes in hospitalized COVID-19 patients, compared with more healthful levels".
